2018 was an exciting year for TRA, as we expanded our reach to clients from coast to coast and added three new TRA team members. Our work included safety and security assessments, organizational and budget analysis, and technical support for a variety of projects, among other efforts. Below you’ll find a brief summary of highlights from our work in 2018.

• Changes to the federal regulatory environment spurred an increased need for support for our State Safety Oversight (SSO) clients. States are required to comply with standards laid out in MAP-21, including becoming certified by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) as compliant with these new standards. During 2018, nearly all of our sixteen SSO clients achieved certification, with TRA providing technical support for these efforts to more than 80% of those clients.
• TRA expanded its team of technical experts and project support personnel this year, adding a new Director of Systems Engineering and two Project Analysts. Daniela Amores brings her technical expertise to projects across the country from her years as Chief of Traction Power and Train Control at Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (formerly Miami-Dade Transit), while Abigail Lowe and Kyle Hearing support TRA’s SSO work in several states.
• 2018 saw a multitude of safety and security assessments for TRA clients, as well as some significant transitions for transit agencies with whom we work. TRA team members were on site in over a dozen states this year, performing reviews for clients in Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, and Missouri, among others. Our personnel also continued critical work begun in 2017 for clients such as Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
