How did you begin working at TRA? Who was your first client?

I first got to know the TRA team while working in Miami as the Chief of Train Control and Power. After completing my Executive MBA, I was interested in going back to the private sector and applying my technical background and business knowledge. The company culture at TRA was an obvious right fit for me.  While I’ve only been on board for a few months, I’m excited to be a part of this team and the many opportunities to impact TRA’s footprint in the transit industry through the growth and development of service offerings and technical skills of personnel.

My first client is a two way tie between PennDot and Hawaii DOT. I’ve been involved in the State Safety oversight on the Media-Sharon Hill Line Communications-Based Train Control project in Philadelphia and new construction of the Honolulu Light Rail. These projects have allowed me to bring forth my construction knowledge as a Systems installer and integrator along with the experience as an agency stakeholder.

What do you like most about your job?

I would say that the beliefs and values of TRA is what has made this an outstanding place to work. I know that can sound a bit cliché, but working somewhere where your values and the company’s values align is extremely important to my overall job satisfaction. From the very start, TRA has had an entrepreneurial approach to our work which includes a diversity in types of projects, flexible time management, and valuing its employees. My job allows me to work on a variety of interesting projects and see a direct impact on the solutions we provide to our clients – all the while encouraging my work and life passions.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I spent my college years as the Football Manager of Brown University’s football team. This meant I attended all practices, home and away games, summer breaks were spent in RI for two-a-days and I met with recruits and their parents – often spending up to 30 hours a week with the team. To this day I continue to be involved with the program and it was interactions with football alums that piqued my interest in a career in construction, which eventually led to my career in transit. Go Bears!

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

I rescued my dog Jax when he was just 6 weeks old and found abandoned on the streets of Dallas. So when I’m not traveling for work, we spend time doing the things dogs like best – walks along the water, beach adventures (we live in Miami!) or checking out running paths. My place of Zen is kickboxing class, destination half-marathons with a group of grad school friends and reading business strategy books.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I would love to get back out to Tanzania! Safari, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar…all of it! Or relax in the clear waters of the Maldives.
