
TRA conducted a comprehensive assessment of the current functional activities, allocated resources, skill sets, formal procedures, and practices used by the System Safety Department to carry out its mandated mission for MARTA. The review team has also analyzed the capacity, resources, and capabilities of the System Safety Department to meet currently-defined objectives, along with the additional tasks and functions necessary to expand its mission to meet MARTA’s safety goals. In addition to the formal documented analysis and development of supporting departmental documentation, TRA also assessed current System Safety staff’s ability to meet expectations and defined goals. Finally, the review team conducted a survey of other transit agencies’ system safety departments with the goal of determining industry standards and best practices that may aid MARTA.
